Small changes, big impacts

About The Ripple Project

Tell me more

The Ripple Project is an exciting, innovative approach to improving the lives of children by teaching early educators how to;

Identify speech, social, and language delays;
Improve daily interactions in education settings;
Provide parents with information so they can support communication development at home.

National data suggests that one in four children starting kindergarten, may start with a speech or language disorder!  But in so many regions across Australia, it is even higher. This can have a negative ripple effect for the person's life and community. The Ripple Project has been created by Amy Pollitt, Speech Pathologist, with the support of Kelly O’Shea, Tarro Public Principal and Carolyn Wilson, Transition Support Teacher. The Ripple Project was created as an idea to help improve Tarro’s AEDC results for vulnerable children. Amy has worked collaboratively with two amazing preschools that are trying to change that ripple effect, Woodberry Community preschool and Beresfield Community Children’s Education Centre. They have been integral to the success of the creation of the training modules. You can find out more about our amazing results here!

Ruth Davies CPSP Speech Pathologist

Time flies when you’re having fun! Ruth has been a certified practicing speech pathologist since 1988 and her passion for supporting children who have difficulties communicating is as strong as ever. With experience across health, education and private practice settings, Ruth knows the difficulties families and educators have in accessing the right support services. She has always focused her energy on ‘sharing the love’ and knows that access to good, evidence-based information gives a child’s community the confidence and skills to best support a child in their own environment.

Gone are the days of her non-airconditioned health department pool car traveling the backroads of NSW to work with children and their dedicated early educators in small rural and remote communities! Online learning platforms have made knowledge and resources so much more accessible to us all. Ruth is excited to make the best of connecting with people online and, through The Ripple Project, to continue her quest to help educators build knowledge and develop skills to support communication in all children.

Michelle Curtain

Director of Woodberry Community Preschool

"The Ripple Project will provide Educators with short and precise videos that can be watched and implemented into our everyday play with children. This will give us the skills to assist children with their language development and to give us the confidence in being able to talk to parents about their child. We need to work together with families to ensure the best outcomes for all children."
