Read. | Watch. | Learn. | Improve.

The Ripple Project is an interactive learning platform designed by experienced Speech Pathologists. It aims to empower Early Childhood Educators to make small changes for big impact. National data suggests that, currently, 25% of children entering kindergarten may start with a speech or language disorder. The Ripple Project aims to train Early Childhood Educators to recognise communication disorders, know how and when to refer for additional support, and to maximise the learning, communication, and social potential of all children.

Courses

It takes a village

The Ripple Project has partnered with some amazing Eearly Learning Centres to create the training modules. We want to give special thanks to the staff and students of Woodberry Community Preschool and Beresfield Community Children’s Education Centre. Tarro Public school have also played a key role in partnering with The Ripple Project to ensure the information presented is aligned with the transition to school. We love partnering with like-minded centres who are commited to making a difference.
The Ripple Project was successful in receiving a grant from the NSW branch of the Australian Early Development Census, AEDC, to help start this first wave of change. The funding allowed for the creation of the website and initial six courses and implementing, and reporting on, pre- and post-evaluations with staff from five Early Childhood Education centres.
Most of us take being able to talk and understand words for granted. We don’t think about what our lives would be like if we found this difficult. Children that experience difficulties talking and understanding words, listening to, and responding to others, can struggle playing and sharing with their peers. They can find learning challenging. With the implementation of early learning screenings and targeted speech and language activities, as developed by the Ripple Project, families, educators, and services can work together through play, to successfully strengthen children’s communication skills. By working together we can raise children’s language development so that every child has the same opportunity to play, share, and learn!

As a school, we value the important role that early intervention plays in the successful start to kindergarten. Being able to effectively communicate opens opportunities for students to confidently engage in reading, writing and speaking activities. Social development and peer bonding is also heavily reliant on communication skills, which is why programs such as The Ripple Project are an important link that allows students, families, teachers and services to work together to build those essential skills early in order to maximise learning opportunities.

"I want to make a difference. I love seeing kids one on one but the waitlists can be so big to access speech pathology. I wanted to create these courses, that are simple but effective to changing the environment for kids with communication delays. Professional development can be time consuming and expensive. I wanted to design something that was affordable in time and cost. I also wanted to create something that was unique to the early education sector. I am hoping these courses make the ripple effect of change." Amy Pollitt, Founder of The Ripple Project, CPSP Speech Pathologist
